Thameside School Celebrates Glowing Ofsted Report
Thameside School in Abingdon, a Vale Academy Trust Primary School, is celebrating its glowing report from Ofsted following a two-day Section 5 inspection early in June.
The single form entry school with 187 pupils on roll, including Nursery provision for 3 and 4 year-olds, was rated Good in all areas.
Laura Youngman, Headteacher since September 2022, said “we are so proud of this outcome for our staff, our pupils, and their parents. To read the comment that pupils are at the heart of this happy, nurturing school gives us great joy.”
The report recognises leaders’ high expectations for pupil behaviour and attitude towards learning and that, consequently, pupils behave well and work hard. Inspectors also noted that pupils were proud to attend the school and were friendly, welcoming and courteous.
The report stated that pupils get off to a good start in the early years and learn about respectfulness, kindness and sharing. Additional support, when needed, is “well-planned, subtle but effective”.
A comment typical of many parents was “Thameside has gone from strength to strength over the past year and my child is thriving at this school”, acknowledging the school’s drive to ensure that pupils have the best possible start in life.
Reading was noted as a particular strength, as was Thameside’s commitment to curriculum accessibility for all its pupils. Inspectors noted that curriculum development in certain subjects could raise attainment still further.
Ms Youngman concluded “it has been a real privilege to work with such a committed team of staff, pupils, and supportive families. Since our last inspection in September 2021 the determination and passion of the Thameside team and Trust colleagues have brought about the positive impact that we are having on our children and families in our local community.”
